Cannes shock Saint-Etienne with shootout victory

Cannes beat Saint-Etienne 4-3 on penalties to advance to the last 32 of the Coupe de France.

Cannes have shocked Saint-Etienne with a 4-3 victory on penalties to advance to the last 32 of the Coupe de France after a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Brandao opened the scoring for the visitors in normal time, but his goal was cancelled out by Mickael Darnet on 70 minutes.

Saint-Etienne's hopes took a turn for the worse when Pierre-Yves Polomat was sent off for a second booking with four minutes on the clock.

The game went to extra time and Cannes were also reduced to 10 men when Abdelhak Jamai was shown a straight red card in the 113th minute.

With the game going all the way to a shootout, the home side eventually squeezed past their opponents 4-3 to go through to face fourth-tier side Plabennec round of 32.
