A report claims that Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is wanted by Major League Soccer side DC United to replace Derby County-bound Wayne Rooney.

DC United reportedly plan to hold talks with the representatives of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil over a future transfer to Major League Soccer.

The American club are in the market for a marquee signing after it was announced on Tuesday that Wayne Rooney is to leave in January for a return to England with Derby County.

According to The Mirror, Ozil is among those being considered by United to replace Rooney from next season.

Parties from both sides are due to meet in Washington over the next week, it is claimed, with Arsenal said to be willing to cash in.

Ozil has struggled to hold down a place in the starting lineup under Unai Emery, despite being the Gunners' best-paid player on around £350,000 a week.
