Newcastle United will reportedly battle Ligue 1 champions Lille for Arsenal centre-back William Saliba, who is set for another loan spell away from the Emirates.

Newcastle United have reportedly entered the race to sign Arsenal defender William Saliba, amid interest from Ligue 1 champions Lille.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season out on loan at Nice, where he managed to score one goal in 22 appearances across all competitions for the club.

Arsenal's interest in Brighton & Hove Albion's Ben White has suggested that Saliba is set for another loan move for the 2021-22 campaign, as he will be an out-of-favour choice for Mikel Arteta.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are keeping an eye on the 6ft4in centre-back and will be ready to battle with Lille for his services next season.

Having played for Saint-Etienne and Nice, Saliba would arrive in Lille with 48 Ligue 1 games already under his belt, but experience of Premier League football may come in useful in the Frenchman's quest to break into Arsenal's first team.

Saliba arrived at the Emirates in 2019 from Saint-Etienne, but was immediately returned to the club on loan.
