Mikel Arteta talks up Aaron Ramsdale's "huge, huge potential"

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has sung the praises of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale ahead of his imminent arrival from Sheffield United.

The Gunners are on the brink of welcoming the 23-year-old to the club after agreeing a reported £28m fee with the Blades for his signature, and United boss Slavisa Jokanovic previously confirmed that a deal was close.

Arteta has now also revealed that Ramsdale will soon swap Sheffield for North London, and he believes that Arsenal fans should be excited by the Englishman's signing as he competes with Bernd Leno for the gloves.

Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's game with Chelsea, Arteta said: "We will see. There is still some paperwork getting done. He had his medical as well mostly done. There is still some things to sort with Sheffield.

"I think they're [Arsenal fans] going to love his personality, his character, the quality that he has a goalkeeper and what he's going to offer. He has a huge, huge potential.

It's what we want, it's always been the case at this club, we will have two different profiles and two different stages in their career. Aaron [Ramsdale] is a talented young keeper with huge experience and has international experience for England.

"He will bring competition and that's what we want to create - healthy competition, quality competition in every position. We identified Aaron as the ideal option."

The Gunners also confirmed the arrival of Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal on Friday morning, with Arteta claiming that the playmaker made his side better during the second half of last season.
