Arsenal hand trial to Ahmed Fathi

Egyptian side Al Ahly reveal that defender Ahmed Fathi will travel to England on Friday to undergo a trial with Arsenal.

Al Ahly defender Ahmed Fathi will arrive in England on Friday to start a trial period with Arsenal.

The Gunners have completed the high-profile signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and appear to be close to closing a deal for Newcastle United's Mathieu Debuchy, but Arsene Wenger could be about to make a shock move for the 29-year-old Egyptian international.

His current club posted on their official Facebook page: "Ahmed Fathi will travel to England on Friday to undergo a trial with Arsenal in preparation to sign him if the trial is successful."

Fathi, who has earned 101 caps for his country, has previously spent unsuccessful spells in England with Sheffield United and Hull City.
