Arsenal closing in on Jan Vertonghen?

Arsene Wenger is said to be closing in on the signing of Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian has long been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium to partner international teammate Thomas Vermaelen in the centre of defence.

According to The Mirror, Vertonghen will be available for as little as £7m this summer, due to the fact he only has one year left on his contract.

Vertonghen has also been attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester City after helping Ajax to within one point of this season's Eredivisie crown.

The 24-year-old has earned 36 caps for his country.
