Arsenal 'agree deal for Shakhtar defender'

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on their second defensive signing in the space of a matter of days, having agreed a deal in principle for Mykola Matviyenko.

On Wednesday, the Gunners announced that they had completed the transfer of Pablo Mari, who has left Flamengo in order to move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, Mikel Arteta remains keen on Matviyenko after the Ukraine international impressed him during his time as Manchester City assistant.

According to TEAM1, the North London outfit have a deal in place to secure the services of the centre-back before the end of the January window.

With the 23-year-old having less than 18 months left on his contract, Shakhtar have been open to cashing in on one of their key men.
