Gyokeres to Arsenal, Isak to Liverpool: The five biggest signings that could still happen in summer transfer window 2025

Isak and Gyokeres? The five biggest signings that could happen across Europe

Fans will be hard-pressed to find a bigger deal of the summer than the one that was announced by the Liverpool social media team on June 20.

After Manchester City withdrew from the running and Bayern Munich were informed that he had his heart set on a switch elsewhere, Liverpool completed the unprecedented signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

If some of the world's most reliable reporters are to be believed, Liverpool have forked out an initial £100m for the Germany international, thus making him their most expensive signing of all time, and potentially the Premier League's too if up to £16m in add-ons are hit.

However, both the Premier League champions and their rivals still have ample time to get the chequebook out between now and September 1, where many more marquee moves are anticipated to occur.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at five of the biggest transfers that could still happen in the summer transfer window.

1. Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal)

It appears that the question marks regarding the future of Viktor Gyokeres will soon be put to rest amid reports that the striker has firmly settled on Arsenal as his preferred destination.

Manchester United were believed to have pitched their project under Ruben Amorim to the former Coventry City and Brighton & Hove Albion man, but they look set to miss out on the Swede.

The Gunners' interest in the 27-year-old is not surprising considering he netted an astounding 54 goals in 52 appearances in 2024-25, and Mikel Arteta will hope that the striker can lead his side to the Premier League title.

Reports have suggested that Arsenal are still yet to reach an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for Gyokeres's transfer, with a fee in excess of £60m said to be the Portuguese side's asking price.

2. Luis Diaz (Liverpool to Barcelona)

Barcelona won a domestic treble under the guidance of Hansi Flick, and the German may soon be reinforced with the signing of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.

The Colombian has long been linked with a move to the Spanish giants, but it remains to be seen if Barca can afford his rumoured price tag, which could be as high as £60m.

With Diaz also reportedly of interest to teams from the Saudi Pro League, Barca will have to hope that they can match any financial package that Liverpool receive if they are to land the 28-year-old.

However, Bayern Munich are rumoured to be in the race for the attacker's signature, so Barcelona will have to act quickly to secure their man.

3. Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt to Chelsea)

Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike is said to be subject to interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League, and Chelsea appear to be one of the front runners.

The Eagles star scored 15 goals and provided eight assists for his side in the Bundesliga in 2024-25, and his ability to link play makes him an attractive option.

Considering Chelsea's recent history of spending in transfer windows, it would come as no shock if the Blues were willing to pay the 22-year-old's £84m asking price despite already signing Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

4. Alexander Isak (Newcastle United to Liverpool)

Despite having already signed Wirtz for a record fee, Liverpool's spending spree this summer could continue, with the club strongly linked the Newcastle United's Alexander Isak.

Many thought that the striker would not be available for purchase given the Magpies qualified for the Champions League in 2024-25, but there are suggestions that the Reds still maintain an interest in the forward.

Isak's price is likely to exceed Wirtz's, with Newcastle reported to be demanding a figure in the region of £150m, and such sum would take Liverpool's summer spending above £300m.

5. Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford to Manchester United)

No Ollie Watkins? No Ivan Toney? No problem for Brentford and Bryan Mbeumo, who has typified the expression strength to strength since touching down on English shores.

The Cameroon international entered the summer 2025 window on the back of a 20-goal Premier League season, form that especially attracted Manchester United and their Europa League final foes, Thomas Frank's Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite the lure of playing for his ex-Bees boss at the latter, not to mention also earning his Champions League stars, Mbeumo is thought to be prioritising a switch to Manchester United, so the onus is now on the Red Devils to stump up a satisfactory financial package.
