Mikel Arteta on Eddie Nketiah: "Good things happen to good people"

Arteta on Nketiah: "Good things happen to good people"

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that "good things happen to good people" after Eddie Nketiah's brace in Wednesday's 4-2 Premier League win at Chelsea.

The 22-year-old capitalised on an error from Andreas Christensen to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge before poking home early in the second half as the Gunners ended a three-game losing streak against the European champions.

Nketiah was making only his second Premier League start of the 2021-22 season following Alexandre Lacazette's COVID-19 recovery, and Arteta was full of praise for the Englishman after the pulsating victory.

The Spaniard also paid tribute to squad players Mohamed Elneny and Rob Holding, both of whom performed admirably during rare Premier League starts for the top-four chasing Gunners.

"What I've been saying all the time about Eddie. When you look at him in training and how humble he is all the time, good things happen. Good things happen to good people. The same with Mo Elneny and Rob Holding," Arteta told reporters at his post-match press conference.

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe were also on target for Arsenal, who have now moved level on points with Tottenham Hotspur but remain behind their North London rivals on goal difference.

Arteta's side now sit three points clear of Manchester United with a game in hand and will aim to further boost their top-four hopes at the expense of the Red Devils' in Saturday's encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
