Wright: 'Walcott must play as a striker'

Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright says that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger must play Theo Walcott as a central striker.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has insisted that Theo Walcott must be given an extended run in the side as a striker.

The 22-year-old scored twice in the 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and Wright believes that the former Southampton striker should play up front.

"Theo Walcott received a major favour from Arsene Wenger in the North London derby. And now I would love to see Wenger do one more thing for Theo ... finally stick him up front next to Robin van Persie," said Wright in his column for The Sun.

"It would be a move which could give AC Milan a major fright in the Champions League next week ... Theo is still only 22 but now is the time for Wenger to play him up front.

"There would not be many better strike partnerships in the Premier League than a Walcott-Van Persie combo."

Wright scored 128 league goals for Arsenal.
