Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger backs David Moyes to be a success as Manchester United manager.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has declared that David Moyes has all the attributes necessary to become a success as Manchester United boss.

Moyes will take over as United manager from Sir Alex Ferguson this summer following the 71-year-old's decision to retire at the end of the current campaign.

Wenger believes that Moyes has been chosen with long-term plans in mind and will be given time to make his own mark at Old Trafford.

He told the club's official website: "It looks like an intelligent appointment because he knows the Premier League well.

"It looks as well that it's a long-term appointment, that story has been done for a long time. But it makes sense. Of course it's a step up for David Moyes now because the demands will be huge when you follow a guy like Ferguson.

"But he looks like he can fill in with quality, competence and has the experience and knows all the Premier League players."

When Ferguson's tenure at United comes to an end on Sunday, Wenger will take over the Scot's position as the longest-serving manager in the Premier League.
