Arsene Wenger: 'David Beckham will boost French football'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Paris Saint-Germain's signing of David Beckham will benefit the whole of French football.

Arsene Wenger believes that David Beckham's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain will provide a boost to French football.

Beckham had been training under the watchful eye of Wenger at Arsenal's training ground and the Gunners boss has insisted that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder will attract new viewers to Ligue 1 action.

Wenger told reporters: "Beckham is a world brand and the eyes will be on him, and on PSG, therefore also on the French league while he is there.

"I don't know if he had offers from all around the world, but PSG is not a bad choice because they are a very ambitious club, who have a lot of potential.

"They look to extend their reputation at the moment, and Beckham certainly is a good part in that."

Beckham had been a free agent after leaving LA Galaxy at the end of the MLS season.
