Ian Wright hits out at Arsenal players

Ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright questions his former team's attitude during their 4-0 defeat at Southampton in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has hit out at the Gunners following their 4-0 defeat against Southampton in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Arsene Wenger's side entered the match knowing that three points would see them rise to the top of the Premier League table.

However, a double from Shane Long and goals from Cuco Martina and Jose Fonte secured all the points for the Saints, who entered the game having lost four of their last five in the league.

After the match, speaking on BT Sport, Wright criticised his former club's performance and also their attitude, especially in the second period.

"I think the worst that Arsenal should have left there with is at least a draw," said Wright. "My mistake at half time was thinking that I was in that dressing room.

"If it were me, I would have been coming out in the second half trying to prove something. My mistake is thinking that those Arsenal players think like I do."

Arsenal will attempt to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Bournemouth to the Emirates on Monday.
