Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis insists that Arsene Wenger's future as manager of the club is safe.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has confirmed that manager Arsene Wenger is not facing the sack.

The Gunners have lost three of their opening five league matches and lie 17th in the table, just one point above the drop zone.

Despite the poor start, Gazidis has insisted that the Frenchman's future at the Emirates Stadium is safe.

"We're right there with manager Arsene Wenger," Gazidis told BBC Sport.

"We're not going to get into a discussion about his position, he's secure.

"If we get into short-termism we'll do more damage to the club. He's frustrated but very, very focused on putting things right and is as positively engaged as ever driving the club forward."

Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996.
