Dermot Gallagher: 'Referee right not to award Burnley penalty against Arsenal'

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher feels that the referee was right not to award Burnley a second-half penalty against Arsenal.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has dismissed Sean Dyche's suggestions that Burnley should have been awarded a penalty in Saturday's Premier League fixture at Arsenal.

Burnley have now gone 61 top-flight games without being given a spot kick, but Dyche felt that the Clarets were denied a clear penalty when Sead Kolasinac put his hands into the back of Kevin Long.

However, Gallagher has agreed with the referee, suggesting that Long left Kolasinac with little choice but to try to take action in order to avoid Long running into him.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I think not. What happens is Kevin Long is backing and backing and backing, and I think that Kolasinac puts his hand out to break him and stop him coming into him.

"It looks far worse because as he steps back, Long is also going back but I think that is own momentum takes him down. I think it would have been very harsh."

Arsenal eventually prevailed by a 3-1 scoreline at the Emirates Stadium.
