Arsenal and Germany centre-back Per Mertesacker insists that he will be fit for selection in time for the European Championships.

Arsenal centre-back Per Mertesacker has insisted that he will be fit enough to represent Germany in this summer's European Championships.

The 27-year-old is expected to miss the remainder of the season, having undergone surgery to correct an ankle injury.

Initial reports had suggested that he would also be absent for Germany's campaign, but the defender believes that he will be available for selection.

"My participation in Euro 2012 is not in danger. Dr Stockle in Tubingen did the operation on Tuesday evening, attached a piece of bone back to the ankle and patched up the deltoid ligament on the inside of the ankle," Mertesacker said on his official Facebook page.

"All went well and I'm currently in Donaustauf, Bavaria, for the physical rehabilitation."

Mertesacker joined the Gunners last summer.
