Wilshere double enough for Arsenal

Jack Wilshere's double gave Arsenal a 2-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League this evening.

Wilshere scored after just 30 seconds when he was was afforded the freedom of the entire right flank. The England international scampered into the area, cut back onto his favoured left foot and clipped a shot high into the corner.

Wilshere then set up Aaron Ramsey minutes later, but somehow the Wales international failed to beat Steve Mandanda with the goal at his mercy six yards out.

The French side recovered from their early setback, but Arsene Wenger's side maintained a measure of control throughout the half.

Ramsey won a fortunate penalty when he was tripped outside the area, but Mesut Ozil missed the spot kick with a weak effort to Mandanda's right.

Wilshere had his second of the evening after the restart when Ramsey threaded Ozil who side-footed across the face of goal for the 21-year-old to extend the lead after 65 minutes.

Florian Thauvin almost had one back when he drilled a left-footed shot at the near post, but Wojciech Szczesny got down to make an impressive stop after 76 minutes.

Santi Cazorla missed a glorious chance late on when he blazed over from 10 yards out and Theo Walcott poked wide in injury time after racing clean through.
