Manager Arsene Wenger opted to bring Robin van Persie off the bench just after the hour mark but the skipper, who achieved a hat-trick in the weekend's clash with Chelsea, failed to break the deadlock.
Three points would have guaranteed the Gunners a place in the last 16. They will next face Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, November 23.
