Jamie Redknapp feels that Tottenham Hotspur's absence from next season's Champions League would be a "massive disappointment" for the club.

Spurs play Sunderland today knowing that they must win to stand any chance of taking part in next season's competition.

However, they currently trail north London rivals Arsenal by a point and Redknapp feels that Spurs have a superior squad to their neighbours, meaning failure to qualify would represent a major setback.

"Will this game [against Sunderland] make or break their season? For Spurs yes, 100 per cent," Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

"The squad they have is far better than Arsenal's and they finished in the top four last season. That Arsenal are ahead with an inferior squad shows you how good Arsene Wenger is.

"It would be a massive disappointment for Tottenham to miss out. They are so close to something big."

The Gunners travel to Newcastle United this afternoon.
