Angel di Maria: 'Argentina on right track'

Di Maria: 'Argentina on right track'

Angel di Maria has insisted that he is happy with how Argentina are playing in the World Cup, despite his side needing a late goal to see off Iran.

The Albiceleste edged past their opponents courtesy of Lionel Messi's goal struck from outside the box in injury time, while Bosnia-Herzegovina also ran the South Americans close in a narrow 2-1 defeat.

"If Messi doesn't hit it from there, it's difficult to score, but we created some good chances," Di Maria is quoted as saying by Goal.com when asked about his side's winning goal against Iran. "The important thing was to win and we are on the right track. We played a good game.

"I'm happy with how we're playing. It's not easy when the other team put 11 men behind the ball - it's impossible to play like that."

The victory ensured that Argentina have secured their place in the next round, but they still have one more group game against Nigeria left to play.
