Sergio Aguero: 'Argentina have proved people wrong'

Man City striker Sergio Aguero claims that Argentina have upset the odds in reaching the World Cup final despite their status as one of the pre-tournament favourites.

Sergio Aguero has hinted that Argentina have upset the odds in reaching the World Cup final in Brazil.

The South Americans beat Netherlands in a last-four penalty shootout on Wednesday, after a deadlocked 120 minutes, to set up a showdown with Germany on Sunday.

Alejandro Sabella's side were viewed as one of the pre-tournament favourites, but Aguero has claimed that not many people expected them to make it to the Maracana.

"A lot of people didn't think Argentina would get to the final but we knew what players we had, very good players individually," he told reporters. "This means so much."

Aguero successfully converted his spot kick as Sergio Romero saved from Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder to put Argentina through to their fifth World Cup final, and third against Germany.
