First-placed Chesterfield produced an emphatic four-goal blitz in the space of seven first-half minutes to demolish Cheltenham Town 4-1 in League Two tonight.

Dan Gardner opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, before Eoin Doyle, Oliver Banks and Liam Cooper chipped in with additional goals before the game had reached the half-hour mark.

Byron Harrison struck a consolation for Cheltenham before the hour, the result leaving the Robins in 17th place, seven points from the relegation zone.

Two more sides produced scintillating away performances to comprehensively beat their opponents in front of their home fans in League Two this evening, with Plymouth Argyle putting four past Fleetwood Town at Highbury, and Bury also scoring four goals to see off Mansfield Town at the One Call Stadium.

Meanwhile, Wycombe Wanderers accrued valuable points in their fight against relegation by beating Exeter City 1-0, AFC Wimbledon secured all three points against Newport County in their 2-1 away win, and Northampton Town did their survival chances no harm by beating high-flying Southend United 2-1 at Sixfields.

In other results, Portsmouth also claimed precious points in their struggle to beat the drop with a 1-0 home win against Accrington Stanley, Scunthorpe United drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers, and Torquay United and Burton Albion also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
