AFC Wimbledon striker Connolly retires

AFC Wimbledon striker David Connolly has retired from football with immediate effect.

The Irishman made over 400 appearances for 10 clubs, including West Ham United, Leicester City, Sunderland, Southampton and Portsmouth.

He also spent four years playing in the Netherlands for Feyenoord and SBV Excelsior.

Connolly, 37, made 41 appearances for the Republic of Ireland and was part of the squad at the 2002 World Cup.

He joined AFC Wimbledon in January and scored one goal in eight appearances before deciding to hang up his boots.
