AC Milan have edged into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia after requiring extra time to claim a 1-0 win over bitter city rivals Inter Milan.
The Rossoneri weighed in with the first real chance of the game after 18 minutes as Giacomo Bonaventura's header was tipped over the bar by Samir Handanovic.
Antonio Donnarumma then appeared to have scored an own goal when he knocked Ivan Perisic's cross into his own net, only for VAR to disallow the incident.
Inter grew into the game and spurned a number of changes, including a Suso drive kept out by Handanovic and Mauro Icardi's backwards header which flew inches wide.
Neither team could force the issue by half time and, despite both sides weighing in with numerous chances throughout the second half, the standard 90 minutes finished goalless.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 104th minute as Patrick Cutrone sprung the offside trap to latch on to a ball over the top from Suso before slotting past Handanovic from 10 yards.
The Nerazzurri could not find an equalise and were duly knocked out of the competition, while Milan go on to face Lazio in a two-legged semi-final next month.
