Aberdeen vs Falkirk - prediction, team news, lineups

Two teams still searching for their first wins of the season will clash on Sunday when Aberdeen host Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership.

The hosts have lost both of their opening two league fixtures, while the visitors have claimed one point from their first two league games.

Match preview

Aberdeen have had an extremely disappointing start to the 2025-26 season, managing just one win from their first five matches across all competitions.

The Dons have lost 2-0 in each of their Scottish Premiership fixtures - against Hearts and Celtic - while they have also been eliminated from the Europa League by FCSB in the playoff qualifying round, meaning they drop to the Conference League.

Jimmy Thelin's side's only victory has come in the Scottish League Cup second round, with the Dons comfortably defeating Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton.

Now looking to record their first win of the Scottish Premiership campaign, Aberdeen will host newly-promoted and fellow strugglers Falkirk.

The visitors sit just one point above the hosts at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership standings, having managed one draw and one loss from their first two games.

Falkirk, who were promoted from the Scottish Championship as title winners last season, twice fought from behind to secure a point on the opening day of the season against Dundee United, but they were disappointingly defeated 3-1 by fellow promoted side Livingston on matchday two.

A 4-1 loss to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup second round followed, meaning Falkirk are now three games without a win since last triumphing in the Scottish League Cup group stage.

Hoping to put a swift end to their search for a league victory, Falkirk will be aiming for a win over Aberdeen for the first time since February 2010, having lost all of the last four meetings.

Team News

Aberdeen will be without Emmanuel Gyamfi and Kristers Tobers will be unavailable for selection due to ongoing injury issues.

Following a crushing 3-0 loss to FCSB in their last match, Thelin may decide to make a number of changes to his starting team, meaning the likes of Alfie Dorrington, Leighton Clarkson and Sivert Heltne Nilsen could start.

As for the visitors, Barney Stewart, Coll Donaldson, Finn Yeats, Jamie Sneddon and Thomas Lang are all unavailable due to injury concerns.

Ethan Ross is expected to return to the starting team, joining Ross MacIver, Calvin Miller and Aidan Nesbitt in attack, while Dylan Tait and Brad Spencer are likely to remain in midfield.

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:

Mitov; Devlin, Dorrington, Knoester, Jensen; Nilsen, Aouchiche, Shinnie; Keskinen, Sokler, Clarkson

Falkirk possible starting lineup:

Bain; Adams, Neilson, Henderson, McCann; Spencer, Tait; Miller, Nesbitt, Ross; MacIver

We say: Aberdeen 2-1 Falkirk

Aberdeen have had a dismal start to the Scottish Premiership campaign, but the Dons are certainly a stronger team than their visitors, and with home advantage set to play a factor, we expect the hosts to win.
