Derek McInnes: 'Aberdeen have a lot of work to do'

Derek McInnes concedes that his Aberdeen side have a lot of work to do following their 5-1 thrashing by St Johnstone.

Derek McInnes has conceded that his Aberdeen side have 'a lot of work to do' following their 5-1 thrashing at the hands of St Johnstone on Saturday.

The Dons originally boasted a perfect home record and possessed a four-point gap at the top of the table going into Saturday's match, but the defeat could see their lead be cut down to just a point, if Celtic are able to overcome Hamilton Academical on Sunday.

However, regardless of Celtic's result tomorrow, McInnes insists that his side must re-group after the international break.

"What we have here is an honest bunch of players, and we need to nip it in the bud because we don't want to be known as the kind of team that loses cheap goals," McInnes said, according to Sky Sports News.

"There are certain aspects of our play that it's clear we need to work on. We need to find the answers in the squad. We're confident, hard-working and honest, and we expect more than we showed today.

"The international break makes it frustrating that we don't have another game for 13 days, but there's work to be done and it gives us a chance to do that work."

Aberdeen remain top of the Scottish Premiership with 24 points.
