Mumbai won the toss and opted to bat, but opener Michael Hussey could only muster one run before getting dismissed by Ben Hilfenhaus.

A knock of 50 from Rohit Sharma and 39 from Corey Anderson helped push Mumbai's total to 141-7, while Mohit Sharma impressed for Chennai by nabbing four wickets by the end of the innings.

In reply, Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum started strongly by surpassing 50 runs before Smith fell having taken 29 runs from 22 balls.

McCullum shone for Chennai as he reached his half-century and finished unbeaten on 71 following eight boundaries and two sixes.

Suresh Raina (1) was taken out after just four deliveries, but his side were able to do enough to grab the win.
