Simon Kean wins on countback

Canada's Simon Kean progresses in the Olympic super heavyweight tournament courtesy of a countback victory over France's Tony Yoka.

Canada's Simon Kean has shaded a close super heavyweight encounter against France's Tony Yoka on a count-back.

Kean landed the first meaningful shot of the bout, wobbling the Frenchman with a well-timed right hand.

However, Yoka soon settled down and a left hook scored well, before a stiff jab dislodged the Canadian's gumshield.

Kean, trailing by three points, sprinted out of his corner in the second, but his barrage of shots were ragged and inaccurate.

Yoka did not shy away from the scrap and traded with the Canadian. It did not work to his advantage as he became a standing target for Kean, who started to find the target.

The Canadian had turned the bout in his favour and led by one as they entered the final three minutes.

The action became untidy in the decider and both men seemed to tire.
