Late charge seals win for Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards hold off a Toronto Raptors comeback to take a 3-0 lead in their first-round playoff series.

The Washington Wizards needed a run of late points to make sure they held on for a third straight win over the Toronto Raptors, beating their first-round playoff opponents 106-99.

John Wall helped the home side establish a lead early on, with the guard adding 19 points and 15 assists as the Wizards tried to extend their lead in the series to 3-0.

Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan both saved their best for the fourth quarter as the Raptors tried to come from behind late on, setting up Terrence Ross to tie the scores inside the final five minutes.

Paul Pierce made two crucial three-pointers as well as a couple of free throws to edge the home side back in front, handing them the victory.

The teams meet again on Sunday, when the Wizards will be able to clinch a place in the Eastern Conference semi-finals with a win.
