San Antonio Spurs to begin defence of NBA title against Dallas Mavericks

San Antonio Spurs will meet the Dallas Mavericks on the opening night of the new season, while LeBron James faces the Miami Heat for the first time on Christmas Day.

It has been confirmed that the San Antonio Spurs will meet Dallas Mavericks on the opening night of the 2014-15 NBA season.

An all-Texas meeting will take place following the traditional ring ceremony for the defending champions on October 28, with the Los Angeles Lakers meeting Houston Rockets later on the same evening.

LeBron James, who returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this summer, will start his second spell in Ohio with a game against the New York Knicks on October 30, before meeting the Chicago Bulls a day later.

The four-time MVP will face his previous employers, the Miami Heat, for the first time since leaving South Florida on Christmas Day.

San Antonio will also be in action on the December 25 as they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in a repeat of last season's Western Conference finals, while the Los Angeles Clippers will meet the Golden State Warriors on the same day.

Derrick Rose will be expected to make his latest return from injury on October 29 as the Bulls kick off their campaign against the New York Knicks inside Madison Square Garden.
