Nash: 'I was a failure at Lakers'

Retired NBA star Steve Nash has described his two-year stint at the Los Angeles Lakers as a "failure".

The 41-year-old announced his retirement over the weekend after an injury-hit campaign, and he admits that he was "a failure and also a huge disappointment" at the 16-time NBA champions.

He told reporters: "I came here with huge hopes and dreams, and was incredibly humbled and excited to come here and play for the Lakers.

"It's been a difficult period of my career and my life, to battle through that and to try to make something of it, which was fruitless in the end. I know I've never wanted something more, and I've never worked harder. It just wasn't to be."

Nash won two MVP awards in 2005 and 2006.
