Heather Watson, Johanna Konta qualify for Wuhan Open

British pair Heather Watson and Johanna Konta come through their final qualifying matches to earn a place in the main draw of the Wuhan Open.

British pair Heather Watson and Johanna Konta have booked their places in the main draw of the Wuhan Open after they both progressed through their final-round qualifying matches on Saturday.

Watson, who has struggled for form since Wimbledon, broke the serve of Yulia Putintseva on six occasions as she secured a 6-2 6-4 victory.

Konta, fresh from her fourth-round appearance at the US Open, dropped just three games on the way to an emphatic 6-2 6-1 success over American Irina Falconi.

Victoria Azarenka, Andrea Petkovic, Roberta Vinci and Jelena Jankovic are four of eight possible first-round opponents for Watson and Konta, who are both vying for the British number one position.
