Last year's beaten finalist Sara Errani safely makes it through to the second round of the French Open thanks to a 6-1 6-0 victory over Arantxa Rus.

Last year's beaten French Open finalist Sara Errani has begun this year's campaign at Roland Garros with a straightforward victory over Arantxa Rus.

Errani, who was defeated by Maria Sharapova in last year's final, opened the 2013 tournament on Court Suzanne Lenglen against Dutch opponent Rus.

The fifth seed broke Rus's serve at the first two times of asking to race into a 3-0 lead but was pegged back as Rus got one break back in the next.

However, that would be the only game that Rus would register on the scoresheet in the first set as Errani won the next three in a row to take it 6-1.

The second was a similar story, with Errani moving 5-0 ahead before Rus held serve for the first time and then broke again to pull it back to 5-2.

The Dutchwoman could not stage a fightback though as Errani broke in the next to wrap up the match in under an hour.

The Italian will now face either Yulia Putintseva or Ayumi Morita in the second round.
