Leon Smith: Andy Murray is a "superstar"

Davis Cup-clinching Andy Murray is "an absolute superstar", according to Great Britain captain Leon Smith.

Captain Leon Smith has praised the contribution that "superstar" Andy Murray made to Great Britain's triumph in the Davis Cup.

The Brits had not won the competition since the days of Fred Perry and Bunny Austin in 1936.

However, world number two Murray played a prominent role as Smith's team defeated the Belgian counterparts in the final earlier today.

Speaking after the Scot had defeated David Goffin in straight sets to clinch the trophy, Smith told BBC Sport: "It is amazing, as good a feeling as I could imagine. Andy has shown himself to be an absolute superstar.

"He will be the first to say it is a team thing. He will be the first to say that it is a team thing but what he has done is astonishing. I am proud of everyone."

Prior to Belgium, the victorious British squad defeated the United States, France and Australia.
