Roger Federer continues to scale down the number of events he plays this season by choosing to be left out of the Switzerland squad for next month's Davis Cup clash with the Czech Republic.

Roger Federer has not been named in Switzerland's Davis Cup squad for next month's tie with the Czech Republic as he continues his plans to play a reduced number of events this season.

The 31-year-old said last week that he will need to manage his schedule in pursuit of an 18th Grand Slam title and will not play against the Czechs in Geneva next month.

Tour veteran Stanislas Wawrinka will lead the Swiss side to face last year's finalists the week after the Australian Open ends.

Federer begins his campaign in Melbourne tommorrow with a first-round match against Frenchman Benoit Paire.
