Newport Gwent Dragons clinch comfortable win over Bordeaux Begles

Newport Gwent Dragons cruise to their second win of the season in the Challenge Cup, beating Bordeaux Begles 40-24.

The Newport Gwent Dragons have secured their second win of their Challenge Cup campaign with a 40-24 win over Bordeaux Begles this evening.

Patrick Leach and Matthew Pewtner both scored tries early on as the Welsh side dominated the opening spell, but Jefferson Poirot gave the visitors hope before half time.

Efforts from Toby Faletau, Hallam Amos and Ashley Smith ensured a bonus point for the home side as they took the match away from the French side.

However, a penalty try and a late burst from Jean Baptiste Lamotte secured a couple of consolations for Bordeaux.

The result temporarily moves Newport above Bath, who are yet to play this weekend, in Pool 2, while Bordeaux remain third.
