London Irish to play in New York?

A report claims that London Irish are close to confirming that they will play an Aviva Premiership match in New York next March.

London Irish are reportedly in advanced negotiations to play a first ever Aviva Premiership match in the USA.

It has been claimed that the encounter will take place in New York, close to St Patrick's Day in March next year.

According to The Telegraph, the move has already received backing from the other clubs in the Premiership, many of whom have expressed an interest in taking part.

While there are still a number of agreements that need to be reached between Premiership Rugby and USA Rugby, including which stadium will host the game, it is thought that everything will be in place by the time that next season's fixtures are released in early July.

The report adds that Irish are hopeful that they can secure a deal that will see them make the same trip once every 12 months for the next three years.
