Wigan Warriors standout Sam Tonkins beats stiff competition to win the prestigious Man of Steel Award at a ceremony at Old Trafford Cricket Ground on Monday evening.

Wigan Warriors full-back Sam Tomkins was named 2012 Man of Steel at a ceremony at Old Trafford Cricket Ground on Monday evening.

Tomkins beat stiff competition from Warrington Wolves' Ben Westwood and James Roby of St Helens to claim the prestigious individual award.

The 23-year-old was a key component of the Warriors team which finished top of the Super League before being edged out by defending champions Leeds Rhinos in a dramatic playoff semi final.

A number of other prizes were handed out at the end of season awards ceremony, with Leeds Rhinos' Zak Hardaker winning Young Player of the Year.
