Leicester City secure safety with goalless draw against Sunderland

Leicester City cap a miraculous run for survival by ensuring their Premier League status for next season by earning a point in their match against Sunderland.

Dick Advocaat's men came close to taking the lead when they won a free kick 30 yards out and Sebastian Larsson curled an effort towards the bottom corner, which forced Kasper Schmeichel into a solid stop.

Sunderland pressed forward and almost found a way through Schmeichel as Lee Cattermole lifted a through ball into the path of Danny Graham, who fired a volley at goal, but the keeper was able to make the stop.

The Black Cats continued to have the better of the opportunities as Graham and Connor Wickham linked up on the edge of the box, but the latter could only fire his strike over the crossbar.

In the second half, Leicester came close to edging ahead when Marc Albrighton lifted a cross into the box for the run of Leonardo Ulloa, but the striker headed his effort wide of the target.

The home side hit back with a decent chance of their own as Patrick van Aanholt raided forward to the edge of the box, but his strike went narrowly wide of the post.

Sunderland pressed forward once more and Adam Johnson nearly found the bottom corner as he cut in from the right and drilled a low effort at goal, but Schmeichel was there to make the save again.

Steven Fletcher came off the bench for the final minutes of the game and almost put his team ahead when he latched onto a cross from Johnson, but his header went narrowly wide of the post.

Leicester almost snatched all three points when Jamie Vardy chased a lost cause and played the ball back to Andrej Kramaric on the edge of the box, but he could only fire his effort over the bar.
