Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino hints at striker arrival

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino reveals that he might sign a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he will sign a centre-forward in January.

The Argentine was criticised for not signing an out-and-out striker during a summer transfer window in which he lost Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor, leaving the goalscoring burden with youngster Harry Kane.

Kane, who netted 31 times in a goal-laden 2014-15 campaign, has picked up where he left off last season by netting eight times in the Premier League, but Pochettino hopes to add competition other than Clinton N'Jie and Son Heung-min, who have both operated as wingers in their early Spurs careers thus far.

"We have offensive players who can play like Harry," he told a press conference.

"There is Sonny or [Nacer] Chadli or Clinton – they can play like a striker. But I recognise they are not specific strikers, so maybe we work to try to find such a player we can add in the next transfer window or in the summer. We are trying to follow players now but it is very difficult.

"What is most important is that we do not rock the balance of the team. It is important we find someone who is very specific. For me, always, you want to find a striker that scores a lot of goals and who has good physical condition, good characteristics, who can press, work hard and is a nice guy, too."

The Lilywhites have lost one of their 14 Premier League outings - a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United on the first day of the season, courtesy of a Kyle Walker own goal.
