Sporting Lisbon ease past 10-man Academica de Coimbra

Goals from Carlos Mane, Islam Slimani and Alberto Aquilani fire Sporting Lisbon to a 3-1 victory over 10-man Academica de Coimbra in their Primeira Liga match.

Sporting Lisbon edged out Academica de Coimbra 3-1 in their Primeira Liga clash this evening.

The visitors took the lead in the sixth minute when midfielder Carlos Mane found the bottom corner with a low strike at goal.

Islam Slimani doubled his side's advantage when he raided forward and beat the outstretched hand of Academica keeper Lee with a powerful shot.

However, the home team got back in the game when they were awarded a penalty, which was dispatched past Rui Patricio by Rabiola.

In the second half, Sporting were handed the chance to extend their advantage further as they won a penalty, but Adrien Silva failed to convert from the spot.

The visitors secured their win with another penalty, however, as Slimani was brought down in the box by Fernando Alexandre, who was sent off as a result of his challenge.

Alberto Aquilani was entrusted with the spot-kick duties on this occasion, and he fired his effort past Lee to earn the three points.
