Roma score five to thrash Carpi

Roma put five past recently-promoted Carpi to secure their first win in four games in Serie A, as Mohamed Salah and Lucas Digne add second-half goals for the hosts.

Serie A giants Roma scored five goals against Carpi to secure their first win in four matches this evening.

The hosts started the game brightly, as veteran midfielder Seydou Keita headed just over the bar, before Eden Dzeko forced a save from Zeljko Brkic in the Carpi goal.

Roma took the lead on 24 minutes through Kostas Manolas, who fired past Brkic from a corner.

The hosts doubled their lead four minutes later, as Miralem Pjanic found the bottom-left corner of the Carpi goal with a well-struck free kick.

Gervinho added his side's third goal on 31 minutes, as the Ivorian winger pounced onto a parried Maicon strike to find the back of the net.

Former Italy international Marco Borriello pulled a goal back for Carpi three minutes later, as the striker met a Gabriel Silva cross with a diving header.

After the break Roma continued to dominate proceedings, and the Serie A giants scored a fourth goal through Mohamed Salah, who pounced onto Francesco Totti's parried shot for a simple finish.

Salah missed a good opportunity to score his second goal of the match minutes later, as the Egyptian winger fired wide from inside the penalty area.

Carpi came close to pulling a goal back after the hour mark, as Ryder Matos fired wide, before Borriello's effort from inside the box just missed the target.

Roma added a fifth goal through Lucas Digne, who was found unmarked by a Maicon cross, before the French left-back fired a header into the net.

Gervinho could have added a sixth for the hosts, as the former Arsenal man drove past several Carpi defenders before hitting the left post.

Carpi were awarded a penalty on 75 minutes when Maicon brought down Antonio Di Gaudio in the penalty area, but Matos' effort was saved by Morgan De Sanctis, before the Brazilian hit the rebound straight at the veteran keeper.

The visitors almost added a second goal before the final whistle through substitute Kevin Lasagna, but his fierce strike from the edge of the Roma box was well-saved by De Sanctis.
