Real Madrid held at home by in-form Eibar

Real Madrid fail to win for the the fourth successive match as the capital side are held to a 1-1 draw by Eibar at the Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon.

Real Madrid missed the chance to move above Atletico Madrid to the top of La Liga after being held to a 1-1 draw by Eibar in Sunday afternoon's clash at the Bernabeu.

Three points would have taken Los Blancos above their capital rivals ahead of the international break, but a third straight league draw made it another frustrating afternoon for the Madrid giants.

The first half-chance of the match came to Gareth Bale in the fourth minute of action, but the Welshman could only find the side-netting with a powerful strike from the edge of the away side's box.

It was Eibar that incredibly made the breakthrough in the sixth minute, however, when Fran Rico's header from an Ander Capa cross found a route through the body of Keylor Navas as the Bernabeu was stunned into silence.

There was not quite an immediate response from Real Madrid, but they were level in the 17th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo delivered a cross onto the head of Bale, who nodded past Asier Riesgo from close range.

Los Blancos had to wait until the 30th minute to have another opportunity when Danilo delivered a low cross into Karim Benzema, but the Frenchman could not convert, before Riesgo had to get down and keep out a stinging drive from Ronaldo.

The expected domination from Real Madrid was just not present in the first period as Eibar continued to threaten in wide positions and Raphael Varane twice had to turn dangerous Pedro Leon crosses behind his own goal.

At the interval, the point was enough to move Real Madrid level with the league leaders Atletico Madrid, but Zinedine Zidane's side were staring at a fourth successive draw in all competitions after failing to find their rhythm once again.

Zidane introduced both Alvaro Morata and Nacho at the interval in two tactical changes, but it was Eibar that had the first chance after the restart, with Leon firing straight at Navas after breaking into the Real Madrid box.

The home side did have the ball in the back of Eibar's net for a second time in the 55th minute, but Morata's close-range effort was ruled offside during a period where the Madrid giants were starting to take grip of the contest.

A deflected Ronaldo free kick caused problems inside the Eibar box with little over 30 minutes remaining, but the visitors once again managed to clear their lines and had a half-chance of their own moments later - Sergi Enrich heading a Leon cross over the crossbar from close range.

Bale was next to come close for Real Madrid as the Welshman rattled the post with a powerful header, before Ronaldo came close on two separate occasions, the latter of which saw him head an Isco cross over in the 69th minute of action. Eibar were not exactly settling for a point, however, as Capa, who was up and down the right throughout the contest, continued to cause problems in the wide positions.

The Bernabeu emptied despite the fourth official putting three additional minutes on the board and it was a comfortable conclusion for Eibar, who have moved onto 11 points from their seven league games.

Next up for Real Madrid is a trip to Real Betis after the international break on October 15, while Eibar will host newly-promoted Osasuna on October 17.
