Fraizer Campbell goal sees Cardiff City through

A late goal from Fraizer Campbell gives Cardiff City a 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the FA Cup.

Fraizer Campbell's late second-half header has given Cardiff City a 2-1 comeback victory to knock Newcastle United out of the FA Cup and earn Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his first win as manager of the Welsh club this afternoon.

Davide Santon came up with Newcastle's first chance of the game when he found himself in space outside the box, but his long-range effort flashed high and wide of the Cardiff goal.

The visitors responded through midfielder Don Cowie, who was able to get on the end of a decent cross, but his header flew straight into the arms of the keeper in the centre of the Newcastle goal.

Kevin McNaughton was next to have a go for City as his right-footed shot from outside the box came close, but it was just a little too wide and edged past the top-left corner.

Cowie wasted a great opportunity for Cardiff after 20 minutes when he eased back a little too much, allowing his close-range effort go sailing over the crossbar.

The hosts thought that they had taken the lead just after the midway point when midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa unleashed a strong effort from outside the box, only to see the ball rattle the post and escape from danger, before Yoan Gouffran tried again from distance but saw his effort creep wide.

Steven Taylor could have put Newcastle ahead in the first minute after the break, but his header from the centre of the box crept wide of goal.

Despite some lackluster play in attack, the hosts finally took the lead in the 62nd minute when Papiss Demba Cisse prodded the ball home with his left foot from a few yards out.

Peter Odemwingie was wasteful for Cardiff when he spurned a good opportunity to equalise by blazing the ball over with his right from the centre of the penalty box.

However, it did not matter as Craig Noone produced a wonder goal minutes later to bring things level, as the midfielder fired a long-range effort into Rob Elliot's top corner.

Cardiff completed the comeback in the 80th minute when Campbell rose to head home a corner from six yards out and dump Newcastle out of the cup.
