Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is confident that David de Gea will soon sign a new long-term contract with the club.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is confident that David de Gea will soon sign a new long-term contract with the 20-time English champions.

De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, and has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his time at Old Trafford.

The Spain international came close to joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2015, but a faulty fax machine saw the stopper remain in Manchester.

De Gea is believed to want parity in terms of wages when it comes to the likes of Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford, with a new five-year contract reportedly being discussed.

Mourinho has said that he has no involvement when it comes to discussing new contracts, but the Portuguese is 'hopeful' that some "good news" regarding De Gea's future will soon arrive.

"I don't belong in the process of discussing deals with the players and negotiations with agents. I never did that, it's something that I don't even like to do. I would be a bad negotiator; I would give everything to the players! So I don't belong to that," The Sun quotes Mourinho as saying.

"I just know that everything is in movement and hopefully sooner than later we'll have good news."

United will attempt to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they travel to Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
