A number of senior Manchester United players are keen for head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be sacked, according to a report.

A number of senior Manchester United players are keen for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be relieved of his duties as head coach, according to English journalist Duncan Castles.

The Red Devils have lost three of their last four Premier League matches to drop into sixth spot in the table, five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, and the disappointing run of form has piled the pressure on Solskjaer.

The Norwegian has thus far kept hold of his job, though, and there is not expected to be any movement at the helm before next weekend's clash with Watford at Vicarage Road.

According to Castles, there are "very senior members" of the squad that believe a change of head coach is needed if the team are to achieve their goals this season.

"It's actually amazing that he's [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] still in a job, given the results and the nature of the work he has done leading up to those results," Castles said on the Transfer Window Podcast.

"Given the response of the dressing room, where there are now very senior members of the Manchester United squad briefing off-record that they feel that the coach has to change if they are to achieve what they expect to be able to achieve with the quality of the squad they have gathered there."

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is allegedly the favourite to replace Solskjaer, but the Northern Irishman is believed to be keen to finish the season at the King Power Stadium.
