Preview: West Ham United vs. Liverpool - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Premier League clash between West Ham United and Liverpool, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Liverpool will endeavour to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea when they travel to the capital to face West Ham United on Sunday evening.

David Moyes's side marched to a 4-1 success over Aston Villa in their most recent league battle, while the Reds could only draw 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion.

One thousand games in the dugout. A simply remarkable feat for a man who shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, with Moyes's West Ham demonstrating their commitment to attack with a romping 4-1 win over Villa in gameweek 10.

Ben Johnson, Declan Rice, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen all got their names on the scoresheet at Villa Park during Moyes's 999th game in charge, but the big 1,000 against Genk in the Europa League did not quite go according to plan for the Scotsman.

Joseph Paintsil's fourth-minute opener was cancelled out by a Said Benrahma brace before Tomas Soucek turned into his own net in the 87th minute, with that 2-2 stalemate preventing West Ham from chalking up a sixth successive win across all competitions.

However, with the Hammers entering this game on the back of a three-match winning run in the Premier League, they remain fourth in the table - three points clear of both Manchester United and Arsenal - while second spot could be theirs for the taking if results go their way elsewhere.

Moyes's side are also yet to be shut out at home in the league this term and are coming up against a Liverpool side that have looked far from impenetrable this season, but the visitors certainly know a thing or two about scoring away from home.

Most associate Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Mohamed Salah with spectacular goals on the Anfield turf, but during Liverpool's clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, Enock Mwepu's looping effort stunned the home crowd into silence as the Seagulls fought back valiantly.

Mwepu's stunner came after Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane had put the Reds two goals to the good, and Leandro Trossard would proceed to net the equaliser for Brighton in front of the Kop as Liverpool were forced to make do with a point.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side made an immediate return to winning ways by beating Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League - made even sweeter by Luis Suarez having a goal disallowed against his old club - and it only took four games for Liverpool to book their spot in the knockout rounds.

Klopp can therefore afford to go strong in the Premier League over the next few weeks, with his side currently sat three points adrift of leaders Chelsea in second place, and they travel to the London Stadium aiming to score at least three goals away from home for the seventh top-flight game running.

The Reds head into Sunday's game on the back of a four-game winning streak against West Ham, and goals have always been aplenty in this fixture with Liverpool scoring 29 in their last 10 top-flight meetings with the capital club.

Team News

Andriy Yarmolenko and Nikola Vlasic both missed the midweek draw against Genk with knocks and remain doubtful for this contest, but neither man would have started anyway.

Moyes did not report any fresh concerns from the Europa League stalemate and is set to recall the likes of Johnson and Kurt Zouma to the backline this weekend.

Tomas Soucek, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen will also reclaim their rightful places in the Premier League XI, with Lanzini, Mark Noble and Arthur Masuaku all set to drop out of the XI.

As for Liverpool, Klopp has confirmed that Roberto Firmino sustained a "serious" hamstring injury in midweek, while Curtis Jones is out with an eye injury and Joe Gomez is nursing a calf issue.

Jones's absence adds to Liverpool's midfield crisis with Naby Keita, James Milner and Harvey Elliott also in the infirmary, but Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara are both raring to go, as is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson are both set for recalls to the rearguard this weekend, while Salah is aiming to become the first player to score in his side's first six league matches of the Premier League season away from home, having already matched Thierry Henry's record of five.

West Ham United possible starting lineup:
Fabianski; Johnson, Zouma, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Fornals, Benrahma; Antonio

Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Jota, Mane

We say: West Ham United 2-3 Liverpool

This has all the makings of a truly entertaining affair between two sides who simply love to attack, and West Ham would do well to take advantage of Liverpool's lack of depth in the middle at present.

It would not be a surprise to see Moyes's attackers breach this Liverpool backline more than once, but the Reds have a penchant for prolific performances away from home and should travel back to Merseyside with all three points after an absorbing encounter.
