Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp dismisses claims Lucas Leiva deserved to be sent off

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp dismisses claims that Lucas Leiva should have been sent off in this afternoon's win over Chelsea.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has waved away claims that Lucas Leiva should have been sent off in his side's win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The Merseyside outfit sealed a 3-1 victory over Jose Mourinho's side thanks to goals from Philippe Coutinho and Christian Benteke.

In the second half, Lucas, who was already on a caution, fouled Ramires, but referee Mark Clattenburg opted to give him a verbal warning as opposed to a second yellow card.

A number of Chelsea players surrounded the match official urging him to send off the Brazilian, while Mourinho was seen clapping sarcastically on the touchline.

When asked by BT Sport if Lucas should have seen red, Klopp said: "No of course not. I am not long enough here to understand how referees try to rule the game because I saw much more intensive situations. We got the yellow card for nearly nothing. You cannot win at Chelsea without luck."

The result was Klopp's first Premier League win as Liverpool manager.
