Preview: Lazio vs. Brescia - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Serie A encounter between Lazio and Brescia, including team news and predicted lineups.

Lazio head into their final two Serie A fixtures of the season knowing that maximum points could secure second place in the standings.

Despite their relegation to Serie B, Brescia make the trip to Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday evening looking for the win which would ensure that they avoid finishing in bottom spot.

Having witnessed his Lazio side record back-to-back victories in entirely different manners, Simone Inzaghi will no doubt be frustrated that this improved run of results could have not come earlier.

Nevertheless, there will be relief that their previous drop off in form was merely a blip, leaving them to focus on continuing their winning streak and building momentum ahead of the next campaign.

Most would have expected Lazio to be provided with a stiff test at Hellas Verona on Sunday, a prediction which was on its way to becoming true when the home team went in front.

However, Ciro Immobile's penalty before half time changed everything, with the visitors going on to register a 5-1 triumph to keep pace with Atalanta BC and Inter Milan.

After his hat-trick, Immobile is now just two goals short of Gonzalo Higuain's 36 from 2015-16, the best return since Gino Rossetti netted the same figure in 1928-29.

Despite an encouraging performance against Parma at the weekend, the 2-1 defeat was Brescia's fifth in six matches, leaving them with work to do to remain in 19th position.

Although the chances of SPAL picking up four points from their remaining two matches seems unlikely, Diego Lopez will be keen for his team to regain some respectability ahead of their return to the second tier.

Lopez was only able to name five substitutes at the weekend, highlighting the squad upheaval which will take place over the coming weeks.

Having been frequently linked with a move to a bigger Serie A club, Sandro Tonali will want to showcase his talent in what will be his penultimate game for the club.

Team News

Joaquin Correa and Immobile are expected to lead the line for Lazio, leaving Felipe Caicedo to be content with a place among the replacements.

Jordan Lukaku is likely to be recalled at left wing-back, while Manuel Lazzari is available again after a one-match ban.

Brescia will be without Daniele Dessena after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at the weekend.

Given Lopez's selection issues, that could lead to Mattia Viviani being handed just his third Serie A start of the campaign.

Lazio possible starting lineup:
Strakosha; Patric, Felipe, Acerbi; Marusic, Milinkovic-Savic, Parolo, Alberto, Lukaku; Immobile, Correa

Brescia possible starting lineup:
Andrenacci; Semprini, Mateju, Gastaldello, Mangraviti; Zmrhal, Tonali, Viviani, Spalek; Torregrossa, Aye

We say: Lazio 4-0 Brescia

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the Serie A title, do not expect any let-up from Lazio. Inzaghi's side were superb at the weekend, and we are backing the home side to cruise to victory over their struggling opponents.
