George Boyd: 'Hull City taking heart from Swansea City, Wigan Athletic success'

George Boyd says that Hull City are treating the FA Cup with due reverence despite their main focus being survival in the Premier League.

George Boyd has said that Hull City are eager to follow in the footsteps of Swansea City and Wigan Athletic by winning their first major trophy.

The Tigers embark on this year's FA Cup campaign with a third-round tie against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium today.

Although survival in the Premier League remains of paramount importance, the former Peterborough United forward said that success in the Cup is also a priority.

"Of course, our biggest aim is to stay in the Premier League, but what we also want is to do well in the cup," The Mirror quotes the 28-year-old as saying.

"It probably represents our best chance of success because anything can happen in cup football. Swansea and Wigan showed what can be done.

"There's a place in the Europa League on offer to the winners and this club has never played in European competition. It would be great to make it happen."

Hull reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1930.
